Two world-renowned artists make their overdue Arizona debut in the most intimate venue of their tour: the virtuoso pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba and velvet-voiced Afro-Cuban singer Aymée Nuviola.
Gonzalo Rubalcaba is an astounding pianist whose virtuosity, brilliance, and imagination draw effusive praise from audiences and musicians. In 1999, Piano & Keyboard named him one of the world’s greatest pianists of the 20th century. Upon first hearing him, the legendary Dizzy Gillespie said Rubalcaba was “the greatest pianist I’ve heard in the last 10 years.”
Singer Aymée Nuviola’s seductive power and emotive range hark back to the fabled vocal tradition of fellow Cubans Omara Portuondo and Celia Cruz, to whom Nuviola has been compared. The critically acclaimed singer has performed all over the world, including at major European festivals and Madison Square Garden. Nuviola has also won the 2018 Latin Grammy for Best Tropical Fusion Album and the 2022 Grammy for Best Tropical Latin Album, collaborated on multiple Grammy-winning albums by other artists, and portrayed Celia Cruz in the Telemundo series Celia. People en Español named her one of its 25 Most Powerful Ladies of 2021, and salsa giant Oscar D’León has nicknamed her “La Sonora del Mundo,” meaning “the sound of the world.”
