John Pizzarelli has had a multifaceted career as a jazz guitarist, vocalist, bandleader, and radio personality. Internationally known for classic standards, late-night ballads, and the cool jazz flavor he brings to performances and recordings, Pizzarelli is a technically proficient fretman with a soft voice, a charming stage presence, and a knack for up-tempo swing. The son of journeyman swing guitarist Buck Pizzarelli, John began performing with his father at age twenty and made his recording debut with the 1983 release, I’m Hip—Please Don’t Tell My Father.
He was called “hip with a wink” by Town & Country, “madly creative” by the Los Angeles Times,” and “the genial genius of the guitar” by the Toronto Star. After his recent smash success with the Boston Pops, John Pizzarelli was hailed by the Boston Globe for “reinvigorating the Great American Songbook and re-popularizing jazz.” And the Seattle Times called him a “tour de force” and a “rare entertainer of the old school.”
Pizzarelli remains a master of Nat King Cole cool.
