Liam Ó Maonlaí

Concert Details

Liam a singer (with a vocal range the envy of many a classically trained vocalist), songwriter, multi-instrumentalist (the list continues to grow), artist, painter, and dancer—more talent than most folks can even dream of having. Bono once described him as “the best white boy soul singer in the world,” and he has also been described as one of Ireland’s best sean nós (traditional Irish) singers.

In 1985, and schoolmate Fiachna Ó Braonáin formed Hothouse Flowers, a group that has produced over half a dozen albums (excluding compilations and live recordings) and continue to perform at gigs in Ireland and abroad. Intertwined in recent years, Ó Maonlaí released solo albums Rian and To Be Touched, the former of which was turned into a dance show with Irish choreographer and director Michael Keegan-Dolan.

Spanning over a quarter century, Ó Maonlaí’s career has seen him achieve number-one hits in over twenty countries, from playing with Aboriginal musicians in the Australian outback to recording with some of the world’s best-known musicians, including Glen Hansard, Markéta Irglová, Carlos Núñez, Dónal Lunny, U2, and Van Morrison, to name just a few.

Learning, experimenting, honing, reaching, touching—with Liam Ó Maonlaí, the feidearthachtaí (possibilities) are endless.

The best white boy soul singer on the planet
