Gary Tobey brought his passion for retail and his experience in event, entertainment, and sports marketing to a new level when he acquired Haworth Marketing and Media in 1995. Since this acquisition, Haworth has grown into one of America’s most highly regarded independent media companies, with nearly $700 million in annual billings. He has remained committed to moving Haworth’s clients’ business forward by becoming true marketing partners—not merely third-party buyers—and building highly respected teams with a passion for media. Breaking new ground in cause marketing as well as event, entertainment, and sports marketing, he has developed invaluable relationships with network heads and sports and entertainment figures, resulting in blockbuster opportunities for Haworth’s clients.
Previously, Tobey had a distinguished career in the retail industry, holding key posts in marketing and merchandising at Platt Music, Federated Group, and Specialized Retailing, Inc.
Aside from serving on MIM’s board of directors, Tobey volunteers much of his spare time and expertise to fund-raising efforts for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, and as a member of the board of Direct Relief International and of the national executive committee of the Humane Society of the United States. He juggles frequent travel between Los Angeles and Minneapolis.
