James Widland is a director of Miller Stratvert P.A., a law firm with offices in Albuquerque, Farmington, Las Cruces, and Santa Fe in New Mexico. He concentrates his legal practice on representing local New Mexico and out-of-state businesses. He is listed in Best Lawyers in America under the categories of Corporate Law, Banking and Finance Law, and Litigation–Banking and Finance. He lectures and writes frequently on business law matters, including for the American Bar Association. He has chaired both the business law section and the real property probate and trust sections of the New Mexico State Bar, which, in turn, has presented him with its Business Lawyer of the Year award and its Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Pinnacle award. Widland received his bachelor of arts degree from Brown University in Rhode Island and his doctor of law degree (cum laude) from the University of Michigan Law School.
On a pro bono basis, Widland provides legal advice to nonprofit organizations and has served as president of two Albuquerque Rotary Clubs, one of which he helped to charter. He formed the charitable foundations for both clubs and secured their tax-exempt status.
Widland fondly recalls his first visit to the Musical Instrument Museum. He was dazzled by how unique, well thought out, and wonderfully interesting the museum was. Now that he resides part-time in Phoenix and serves on MIM’s advisory board, he looks forward to introducing many other people (and particularly his newly born grandson who lives in Phoenix) to all that the museum offers its visitors and concertgoers.
