Donate to the Collection

Thank you for your interest in helping to build MIM’s collection!

MIM continually seeks to acquire new objects—authentic examples of musical instruments, audio and video recordings, photographs, archival materials, and other related items. The generous donations of individuals have helped MIM’s collection to grow in quantity and quality.

If you have an instrument or related object that you might like to propose for donation, please fill out MIM’s Donate to the Collection form and submit it by mail, email (donate@MIM.org), or by FAX (480.471.8713). To expedite the process, please provide as much information as possible (e.g., make, model, serial number, age, provenance) for our curators to review. An image of the object must be included with the form.

Please do not bring an object to MIM before submitting your proposal and being invited by the museum to do so. MIM’s Collection Donations Committee reviews all proposals to determine if the object is a match for our collection. All proposals will receive a response; unfortunately, not all can be accepted.

Although MIM cannot provide appraisals, donations may be tax-deductible up to their fair market value. Here is a list of resources to help you find an appraiser in your area.
