Performance: Valerie Harris 11:00 a.m. Orientation Gallery Hear professional organist Valerie Harris play French hymns on MIM’s Robjohn pipe organ.
Performance: “La Marseillaise” 11:30 a.m. El Río Listen to Claude DuMonde sing the French national anthem La Marseillaise and other French compositions accompanied by the Steinway piano.
Gallery Talk: French Instruments 12:15 p.m. Europe Gallery Explore the iconic French instruments on display at MIM’s France exhibit in this gallery talk by David Wegehaupt, associate curator for United States / Canada and Europe.
Performance: Paradise Winds 1:00 p.m. North El Río Hear members of the Arizona reed ensemble Paradise Winds perform music from the French repertoire.
Performance: Tony Putrino 1:45 p.m. El Río Stroll the lobby with talented local accordionist Tony Putrino (pictured above) as he delivers a unique short performance of French songs while on the move.
Performance: ZAZU West 3:15 p.m. North El Río Catch Phoenix gypsy jazz band ZAZU West for a performance worthy of a 1930s Parisian nightclub. Call it what you will—gypsy jazz, jazz manouche, Django jazz, gypsy swing―it has the same unforgettable ingredients: infectious swing, moody highlights, and adventurous improvisation
