Craft: Castanets 9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. South El Río Spanish castañuelas (castanets) are an iconic symbol of Andalusian music and dance. Create your own and play along with the day’s performances!

Instrument Spotlight: Castañuelas 9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Upper El Río Try your hand at playing castañuelas from MIM’s collection! This percussion instrument is known for its unique sound, which is heard throughout Spanish folk music.
Gallery Talk: Spanish Instruments 10:30–10:45 a.m. Europe Gallery Walk through the Europe Gallery with Matthew Zeller, curator for Europe, on a brief tour of the Spain exhibit.
Performance: Ana María Ruimonte 11:30 a.m.–noon, Saturday Main Courtyard Enjoy the beauty of Spanish opera in this performance from internationally renowned opera singer Ana María Ruimonte, which features renditions of traditional zarzuela and sefardí songs.
Performance: Galician Bagpipes 11:30 a.m.–noon, Sunday Main Courtyard Hear the unique sound of the Galician gaita (bagpipe).
Curator Talk 12:30–1:00 p.m. Event Room 2 Join Matthew Zeller, curator for Europe, for a talk on the cultural, historical, and musical significance of Spain, highlighting the country’s musical traditions and featuring instruments on loan from the Museu de la Música de Barcelona, Spain.
Performance: The Flamenco Jazz Project 1:15–2:00 p.m. Main Courtyard Watch renowned flamenco guitarist Chris B. Jácome and the Flamenco Jazz Project in this fun and lively performance.
Workshop: Flamenco Dance 2:30–3:00 p.m. Event Room 2 Learn the movements of Spanish flamenco dances and use them during the day’s final performance!
Performance: Julia Chacón Flamenco Theatre 3:15–4:00 p.m. Main Courtyard Experience fiery footwork, intricate arm movements, and beautifully designed costumes during a performance from the Julia Chacón Flamenco Theatre. Watch internationally trained dancers and musicians demonstrate the sights and sounds of southern Spain’s flamenco musical style.
