López-Nussa’s single-note grace is akin to Herbie Hancock’s, and his two-fisted attacks are as joyous as Chick Corea’s.

Cuban-born jazz pianist and composer Harold López-Nussa has released a string of acclaimed Latin jazz projects, and his credits include performances with the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba and top honors at the Montreux Jazz Festival’s 2005 piano competition. His latest album, his Blue Note debut Timba a la Americana, was inspired by the pianist’s recent move from his homeland to begin a new life in France. It is a vibrant album teeming with joy and pathos, and it marks an exciting new chapter of his fascinating career: Timba is the first record on which López-Nussa has played electric instruments and synthesizers, resulting in new textures and sensibilities.
Timba unveils a brand-new sound across 10 dynamic original compositions performed by a tight-knit band featuring harmonica virtuoso Grégoire Maret, bassist Luques Curtis, Bárbaro “Machito” Crespo on congas, and Harold’s brother Ruy Adrián López-Nussa on drums.
