She brings a timbre that is part ice and part grain—incisive, original, and emotionally convincing.

Five-time Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Karrin Allyson is preparing a new album centered on the music of Brazil. The upcoming record stars a very special guest: the great Brazilian singer, composer, and guitarist Rosa Passos. Allyson and Passos have long admired each other’s work and have recorded one of Passos’s beautiful compositions, “Dunas,” with a new English lyric written by Allyson and Brazilian drummer Rafael Barata. They also cut a version of the classic “O Grande Amor,” with an English lyric by Chris Caswell.
To round out the record, Allyson, a stellar group of Brazilian instrumentalists—including Barata and pianist and accordionist Vítor Gonçalves—and the venerable American bassist Harvie S tracked several other Brazilian classics, such as “Manhã de Carnaval,” “Flor de Lis,” “So Many Stars,” “Wave,” and “Guarde Nos Olhos.”
For this performance, Allyson will be joined by Gonçalves on accordion, piano, and Fender Rhodes, and Barata on drums and percussion.
