On Diego Figueiredo:
One of the greatest guitarists I’ve seen in my whole life
—George Benson
It all started in 1962. Antonio Carlos Jobim wrote the songs “The Girl from Ipanema,” “Corcovado,” and “Wave.” The music hit North America with an explosion of Grammy awards and Billboard hits. Jazz Samba, the famous 1962 album by Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd, hit number one on the Billboard Pop Chart. Now the world-renowned artists Ken Peplowski and Diego Figueiredo re-create music from this era, but in their own special way.
Diego Figueiredo (pronounced fig-a-ray-do) comes all the way from Brazil and is considered one of the most talented guitar players in the world today. He is the winner of several important competitions, including the Montreux Jazz Competition and the VISA Prize. Figueiredo’s unique interpretations, along with his phenomenal technique and emotion, have created an explosion of adoring fans and concertgoers around the world.
Ken Peplowski is one of the leading clarinetists and sax players in jazz today. He has performed and recorded with all the greats, including Mel Tormé, Leon Redbone, Charlie Byrd, Peggy Lee, Benny Goodman, George Shearing, Madonna, James Moody, Steve Allen, Woody Allen, and many more. Peplowski has recorded over fifty CDs as a soloist and four hundred as a sideman.
