The Triveni trio brings three Indian classical music virtuosos together for the first time: tabla player Zakir Hussain; violinist Kala Ramnath; and Sarasvatī vīṇā player Jayanthi Kumaresh. Each musician advances the art of their instrument to remarkable levels in the context of Indian classical traditions and beyond.
Triveni is the mythical site of the union of three sacred rivers in India, and the name aptly represents the confluence of the varied musicalities these three maestros bring to this collaboration. Hussain is praised for his groundbreaking work at the forefront of brilliant musical dialogues between Hindustani (North Indian) and Carnatic (South Indian) music. With Ramnath representing the North Indian raga tradition, Kumaresh representing the ancient South Indian vīṇā, and Hussain seamlessly stitching North and South Indian rhythmic traditions to provide a bridge for violin and vīṇā to meet, Triveni promises to be a fluid, joyous, and entirely original musical conversation.
