Mini Gallery Talk: Bluegrass History and Instruments 10:30–10:45 a.m. United States / Canada Gallery Join curator Rich Walter for a brief overview of bluegrass music—its origins, stars, and current trends—and take a closer look at the classic instruments displayed in MIM’s recently updated Bluegrass exhibit.
Saturday Pop-Up Performance: The Sonoran Dogs 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. (Saturday only) North El Río Enjoy a mix of originals, traditional and contemporary bluegrass songs, and Americana standards. The Sonoran Dogs features Mark Miracle on mandolin and vocals, Brian Davies on bass and vocals, three-time Arizona state banjo champion Tyler James on banjo, and national flatpicking guitar champion Peter McLaughlin on guitar and vocals.
Sunday Pop-Up Performance: Cisco & The Racecars 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. (Sunday only) North El Río Experience the energetic style, diverse arrangements, and unique blend of old and new with one of the premier bluegrass bands in the Southwest, Cisco & The Racecars, led by Arizona state banjo champion Francisco Briseno.
Performance by James Reams & The Barnstormers 12:30 and 2:15 p.m. MIM Music Theater James Reams, an established bluegrass storyteller and bandleader for 30 years, has greatly contributed to the bluegrass tradition with his original songs and new sounds. Their driving rhythms and hard-edged harmonies make this nationally recognized group a bluegrass staple.
