There are few vocalists as natural as Reams. He doesn’t have to try to sound down-home, he’s there at each turn in the song.
—Bluegrass Unlimited
James Reams & The Barnstormers’ instrumental amalgam of roots, rockabilly and bluegrass embodies the ‘Three Es of Old-School’: edgy, emotional and exciting.
—Flagstaff LIVE!
James Reams and the Barnstormers’ music features driving rhythm and hard-edged harmonies, providing a contemporary take on traditional bluegrass.
Coming from a family of traditional singers in southeastern Kentucky, Reams has played both old-time and bluegrass music since he was just a little sprout. Reams formed the Barnstormers in 1993 and released the group’s first CD, Barnstormin’, in 2001. Teaming up with renowned banjo player, the late Walter Hensley, resulted in the release of James Reams, Walter Hensley & the Barons of Bluegrass in 2002, an album that received an IBMA nomination for Recording Event of the Year.
Reams is known as an “Ambassador of Bluegrass” for his dedication to and deep involvement in the thriving bluegrass and old-time music community. He has been featured in a recent Amazon Prime documentary, Like a Flowing River: A Bluegrass Passage, and will be releasing a soundtrack album next year.
