The MusicaNova Wind Quintet presents a program that celebrates contemporary Western Hemisphere composers, some of whom may not have been given a voice in traditional European classical music. The composers include three women (including an African American named the 2020 Classical Woman of the Year), a Sonoran-born man who incorporates the sounds of Mexico into his music, and America’s best-known composer for woodwinds. The music evokes thoughts of faraway places. Theresa Martin’s Passage is an Arizona premiere, supporting MusicaNova’s mission of presenting “the best music you haven’t heard yet.”
