Demonstration: Pipe Organ 12:30 p.m. Orientation Gallery Hear one of MIM’s biggest treasures: our pipe organ! This 1859 Robjohn pipe organ, which features hand-carved rosewood casework, 502 pipes, and 10 stops, and will stun you with its musical power!
Curator Talk: Stories Behind the Instruments 1:00–1:45 p.m. Event Room 2 Dive deeper into the stories behind the instruments in Rediscover Treasures. Curators Daniel Piper and Eddie Chia-Hao Hsu share fascinating details about historical instruments from Mesopotamia, China, Japan, Iran, Turkey, and Oceania.
Curator Talk: What Makes a Treasure 2:30–3:15 p.m. Event Room 2 Learn about the many ways instruments can be defined as treasures as curators Matthew Zeller and Rich Walter share insight into the process of refreshing MIM’s Rediscover Treasures exhibition, focusing on instruments from Europe and the United States.
Craft: Goblet Drum 9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. South El Río Create your own musical treasure to play throughout the day. See if you can find another example of a goblet drum in MIM’s galleries!

Pop-Up Performance: Carnatic Melodies 10:30 a.m. Main Courtyard Enjoy southern Indian music from local vīṇā player Vasumathi Ram and hear the sitār, an instrument featured in Rediscover Treasures.

Performance: The Hot Beignets 12:30 p.m. Main Courtyard Join the Hot Beignets for a fun, lively performance of traditional New Orleans–style jazz from the 1920s.
Performance: Classical Guitar 2:15 p.m. El Río Listen to the vibrant, melodic sounds of the classical guitar from Phoenix musician Luis Martinez.
Performance: The Desert Strummers 3:15–4:00 p.m. Main Courtyard After seeing “the first ukulele” in the Target Gallery, enjoy Hawaiian music from the Desert Strummers.
Performance: Bartholomew Faire 12:30 p.m. Main Courtyard Transport yourself to medieval Europe and hear Bartholomew Faire play historically inspired medieval and renaissance music on a variety of authentic instruments.
Performance: Oud 3:15 p.m. Main Courtyard Experience the music of the oud, a lute with roots in the Middle East and Northern Africa, performed by Jack Saba.
