Incendiary lyrics are delivered in a call-and-response fashion against tuneful brass riffs; expansive instrumental sections of songs skillfully add and detract instruments while building the grand groove of it all.

Seun Kuti has inherited not only the lyrical heft of his father’s legacy but also—thankfully—the musical stylings.
—PopMatters
Seun Kuti is the youngest son of legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. When Seun was nine years old, he expressed a wish to sing to his father; a short while later, Seun began performing with Fela and his band Egypt 80. When Fela died in 1997, Seun, then only 14 years old, assumed the role as leader of the Egypt 80. Ever since, Seun has followed his father’s political and social ethos.
Along the way, Seun began to add his own twist to the music, digging deep into various African traditions to reflect the continent’s struggles and cultures. About three-quarters of the current Egypt 80 lineup consists of musicians who played with Fela Kuti (and were often arrested and harassed alongside him), and the group’s shows remain as heavy on group improvisation as they are on composition.
