Prudence Johnson:
Her lush, precise, expressive voice, with its pearls of vibrato, is best unadorned. A smart, sensitive pianist—like Chouinard—is all she needs.
—Pamela Espeland
Singers Prudence Johnson and Bruce Henry and pianist Dan Chouinard pay homage to iconic songwriter and hitmaker Burt Bacharach, who brought a unique elegance and sophistication to pop music and whose songs—including “What the World Needs Now,” “The Look of Love,” “Walk on By,” and “Alfie”—have become timeless classics.
Prudence Johnson’s long career has landed her in musical theater productions, in two feature films, on several long stints on A Prairie Home Companion, and on concert stages around the world. She has released more than a dozen recordings, including albums dedicated to the music of the Gershwins and Hoagy Carmichael. She has found great riches in the work of the profound songwriters of her generation. One such project, “The World According to Randy Newman,” debuted in January 2023 and featured favorite collaborator Dan Chouinard.
Bruce Henry is an internationally known vocalist, composer, and storyteller who teaches musical history, traditions, and culture as he entertains audiences with his vocal agility. He is a singer and bandleader with a long history of stellar jazz concerts, moving R&B shows, and revered tribute performances honoring the likes of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Duke Ellington, and George Gershwin.
Dan Chouinard is the pianist and accordionist of choice for a who’s who of Twin Cities performers. He has written hit shows for public radio, concert halls, and theatrical stages. He has appeared across the upper Midwest and turned up on A Prairie Home Companion.
